Greater Cambridge Impact Catalysing better outcomes

At a time when Greater Cambridge is on the rise, and politicians are looking to Cambridge to help drive greater local, regional and national growth, we all know Cambridge’s success needs to benefit the whole community. And this success could be key to addressing some of our most pressing social challenges.

Greater Cambridge Impact is an innovative social impact investment fund set up to help meet this challenge.

Our mission

We’re helping to tackle the systemic inequality that leads to vast differences in life chances across our community.

Harnessing our collective strengths – whether world-leading innovation and thought leadership, engaged communities and social projects, or financial support and investment – everyone has a contribution to make.

Our approach

We’re identifying and supporting the people and programmes that will make change happen.

We’ll support long-term projects that will join-up to make the greatest difference people’s lives.

And we’re drawing on our collective skills, passion and commitment. We’ll work closely with everybody that wants to join us – from communities to charities, local and national government to employers, social enterprises to universities.

This work will be enabled by Social Impact Investment

What is social impact investment?

Social impact investment is a pioneering solution for our times, allowing investors to blend social impact and values with financial returns.

It finances long-term outcomes, which makes it an important response to the social challenges that can feel hardest to tackle.

In other words, it's a win-win.

We're raising an initial £10m. This will be a pilot, demonstrating that impact investment makes a difference for Greater Cambridge, before scaling what works. Cambridge City Council has committed in-principle funding of £1m, underscoring the council's confidence in our mission

Read our report exploring how social impact investing can help tackle challenges in Greater Cambridge.

In the next six months, we are:

- building engagement and collaboration across Greater Cambridge – we’ll be talking to charities and social enterprises, to the universities, employers and people who care deeply about the city and region

- bringing together the high impact opportunities that will help tackle Greater Cambridge’s inequality

- raising investment
